I got my head checked by a jumbo jet

Now it occurred to me yesterday that I cannot recall all the drivers in Wacky Races which made me wonder who was the most unsuccessful / overlooked contestant. My guess was Rufus Ruffcut (a lumberjack) and Sawtooth (a beaver) in The Buzz Wagon. How wrong was I?

It turns out that in terms of top 3 race finishes they came 2nd overall, standing on the winners’ rostrum 13 times (not bad with 34 races in all). This was one behind the overall race winners the Slag Brothers, Rock and Gravel, in The Boulder Mobile, and one ahead of The Gruesome Twosome, Big Gruesome and Little Gruesome, in The Creepy Coupe.

This was one of my favourite cartoons but it seemed harsh that Dick Dastardly and Muttley never had a top 3 finish. They tended to have a very high-powered and innovative car in the Mean Machine, and were very competitive which is important in top level sports, so you do wonder if race-fixing was an issue. I mean how could The Buzz Wagon have done so well overall?

The next least successful with only four podium finishes were Sergeant Blast and Private Meekly in The Army Surplus Special. To be fair it was not built for speed.

The other racers were;

Professor Pat Pending in The Convert-a-Car
Red Max in The Crimson Haybailer
Penelope Pitstop in The Compact Pussycat
The Ant Hill Mob in The Bulletproof Bomb
Lazy Luke and Blubber Bear in The Arkansas Chugabug
Peter Perfect in The Turbo Terrific

The BIG question however is was Wacky Races as good as Stop the Pigeon?

Now before I answer that, I must point out – as some of you may know but I only just found out during ‘research’ that it was in fact called ‘Dastardly and Muttley in their Flying Machines’. I never knew that. You see Bobsblog does educate.

Anyway clearly DaMit FM was great but could not match the vibrancy and excitement of Wacky Races. Despite Klunk.

I now watch far more challenging TV. This week I have been re-watching People Just Do Nothing. Mockumentary? I think not. Gritty real life stuff following the lives of MC Grindah and DJ Beats, who run Kurupt FM, a pirate radio station broadcasting UK garage and drum and bass from Brentford. This is the reality of life on the streets of West London.

Emerging from the darkness is the entrepreneurial spirit and playboy lifestyle of one of my true heroes, the Brown Sugar Daddy, Chabuddy G.

Watch and learn, watch and learn…..

I am being extra boring tonight. Mrs Bob and Bob Junior (female) are off to a Halloween party at a pub with live music and booze and food; Bob Junior (male) dressed as a spooky Ronald McDonald (I don’t get it either) has gone to a party and I am staying in with the dogs for a quiet one. I blame my recent ill health but mainly the fact I am too deaf to hear anyone in a loud pub with live music and end up standing about like an idiot getting slowly piddled. What’s new? Easier in the summer when you can at least go outside.

Had a couple of impromptu pub outings with Braveheart this week, the first to celebrate me getting a job and returning – in three weeks time – to the ranks of the employed to the delight of Mrs Bob. To be fair I am excited and can’t wait. Is it just me and Braveheart, at age 52, who need to empty the liquid waste at least every pint?

I have been reading too – read Gazza in Italy in two days.

To be fair, you could read it in a couple of hours as it is not a long book or a taxing read. All about Gazza’s three year sting in Italy playing for Lazio but without any information direct from Gazza and most info lifted from other books. It gives you the basics but is quite an odd book – why do it without any new or original material? Still it kept me reading and wanting to know if Gazza went on to win the World Cup with England. I won’t spoil it by telling you the answer.

Currently listening to a CD of the greatest hits of The Police and Sting. Before that we had Smashing Pumpkins, Hard Fi and Blur. Now we have Queen on – the Carey Women went to see the new Queen film yesterday and Mrs Bob said it was the best film she has seen in ages. I would have gone but the osteopath had other plans for me.

I ran out of underpants this week. Don’t worry, I have bought some more.

If I had lived in the 12th century then this would not have been an issue as undies (loincloths do not count) were not invented until the 13th century when men began to wear linen shorts called braies. Apparently many knights started to wear underwear under their clothing before they would put their armour on. It must have been a very chafing experience before that and I assume that rusty groins were a problem.

Surprisingly the only thing that comes up when I do a web search on ‘rusty groin’ is;

“Rusty groin aint no fun but we move forward🤗⚽️”

This was an Instagram post by Anton Hysen in Gothenberg in Sweden. Interestingly Anton is the son of former Swedish international and Liverpool defender Glenn Hysén, Apparently Anton came out as gay in March 2011 and the Daily Mail described him as the “first high-profile Swedish footballer to announce that he is gay” and as only the second active professional football player to come out, after Justin Fashanu in 1990. Well done him but shocking to think players still don’t dare come out.

Anton’s Instagram pic is this. Respect.

Right, time to get busy. Just me and the faithful hounds here now. Need some food and a cuppa and Torino v Fiorentina is about to start. The Cagliari game was such a damp squib that I hope we pull out the stops tonight. We were there in Turin for this fixture earlier this year and what a trip that was. Forza Viola!

Say cool.
