But I keep cruisin’, can’t stop, won’t stop groovin’

imageWhilst on holiday I like to read. Yes I am amazing. Bet you don’t know anyone else who reads.

As you are despairing at the lack of Boblogs let me share my reading over the first six days. Not counting airport newspapers or the crashing leaflet. By the way how would bracing myself for impact help if the plane went into the side of a mountain or was eaten by Godzilla?

1. Chasing Points by Gregory Howe.

About a 34 year old teacher who quits his job with the aim of becoming a world ranked tennis professional within 12 months.

Very readable piece of non fiction but I assumed he was playing at my sort of level. Turns out he can play tennis. That is cheating. If Johnny Vegas or Peter Kay did this it would be a lot funnier.

2. The Legacy by Yrsa Sigurdardottir.

Away from her scary ones and back to Icelandic crime. This was really good and gets a BoblobBookClub Gold Star of Merit rating. Best Hoover murder ever.

3. No Place Like home football mag. Spring 2018. Issue 1.

I have only read half of this so far but it has it all. Fiorentina article by my pal Viola Aperol. North Korea, Franny Lee, Roger Milla and lots lots more.

I am on my 3rd book of which more another time.

Podcasts too of course. Just listened to David Mitchell’s Desert Island Discs complete with Herb Alpert, the Muppets and Radiohead. Hilarious Richard Herring interview with Bob Mortimer too. BM reckons that if Calgon is so powerful that if it was introduced to the environment it would destroy all lime and chalk so plastering would disintegrate, it would be impossible to get rid of bodies in lime, and the Mendips would vanish. Also a very interesting discussion as to whether it would be better to have a breast that dispenses talcum powder for ever or to have a time travelling finger.

No pics as my iPad and this Corfiot wifi connection can’t handle it. I’ll try one so here goes.

Glad that didn’t delete all the text again. This is me aged 21 looking very trendy as well as enormously intelligent as I was graduating. Look. I seem almost normal.

Small red peppers.

  1. Hello again Blogmaster Bob and his Furious Three.

As a longstanding and dedicated reader, I need to make a plea on behalf of your more sensitive readership. It’s the vegetables you see. We look forward to the visuals of your Veg of the Week as the crescendo of the Bobsworld Blog experience. But simply writing the name of the selected legume just isn’t cutting the mustard ( or dicing the carrot, or whatever). So could I beseech you on behalf of your dearest fan ( ie. myself) to insert another item to close the piece during your Sejour in Corfu? For example, a soothing quotation from one of your recent literary retreats, or a stansa from one of your favourite hymns, or some brief oratory from the lips of one of the historical personages dearest to your heart? Something as wholesome as a vegetable, but less reliant on the visual stimulus.

    That would be nice.

  3. Hi Bob, Thanks for reading Chasing Points. For my next non-fiction sports book, I’ll make sure I choose a sport I’m completely rubbish at. I have one in mind, I just have to finish the ‘research’. Even then, I better still be better than Johnny Vegas!

    1. How on earth did you find my reference to your book?! Heard about it – I think – on Radio 5 earlier in the summer so got a copy for my hols. Rare to get a sports book that’s a real page-turner to see if you got your points! Look forward to the next one!

      1. Nowhere to hide these days! Really glad you enjoyed it. The BBC interview with Adrian Chiles was an experience, great guy. BTW, I just tweeted your review following the New York Times and The Telegraph articles, so it’s in good company.
